Uttarakhand government to check background of non-locals before allowing to buy land in state

In a recent development, the Uttarakhand government has rolled out a strict law to purchase land in the hilly state. Under the said law, a thorough background check will be conducted before one can purchase land in the state.

The new law is likely to prevent illegal land encroachment in the name of making random religious structures. There have been instances of illegal encroachment of the forest land in the name of making religious structures.
